We all love to hear about wild DUI stories, particularly when they involve our favorite athletes. These sports DUI stories are not only weird – they’re all true!
1. One Flint, Michigan motorist blames LeBron James for his DUI. It’s true, LeBron has certainly been an interesting (and some would say, problematic) character, but never did I think he would be blamed for a DUI that occurred in a state thousands of miles away from him. But, life surprises all of us sometimes. This sports DUI story surprised (and delighted) me.
2. One of hockey’s greats, Nikolai Khabibulin, spent some time in the Phoenix clink for a recent DUI. He did what all prisoners do – read, stare, regret and sign autographs! That’s right, he spent some of his DUI jail sentence working out his hands and signing autographs for his fellow prisoners. Nice!
3. Some football players have all the fun! These football stars definitely “mugged” for the camera – at their local jails. So, this one is not a DUI story, but it’s a handy list of football favorites who have been arrested for DUI. A “wall of shame” of sorts.
4. When you’ve got places to be, you’ve got places to be! Such is true of Charles Barkley, as well. This NBA great was “in a hurry to have sex” when he was pulled over and charged with DUI. Some excuses are crazy, but this one has to be one of the craziest! (At least, one of the craziest to admit out loud.)
5. We’ve all known since we were little that honesty is the best policy – except for those times when it’s not. This “football player” (notice the quotes) got confused about this, and told an interesting lie to try to get out of a DUI. Unfortunately for him, it didn’t work. On the flip side, he made our “wildest sports DUI stories” post, so maybe there’s a silver lining after all.
